Lost Wax Bronze Process


Original sculpture in clay with armature

Step 1

Outer mother mold and

internal silicon mold applied to original sculpture.

Step 2

Wax sculpture with sprues, shrink bulbs and vents to be encased in plaster mixture (investment).

Step 4

Crucible kiln being fired off to melt the bronze ingots.

Step 7

Testing the heat of the molten bronze.

Step 8

Pouring the molten bronze into the investment container

Step 9

Step 10

Investment mold is split open to reveal the bronze sculpture.

Step 11

Metal chased bronze sculptures prior to patina.

Step 12

Completed bronze with ferric  nitrate patina.

Step 13

Wax sculptures are melted in the kiln at 1000 degrees for 48-60 hours.  This creates the negative void for the molten bronze.

Step 6

Melted wax poured into mold reproduces the original  sculpture in wax.

Step 3

Tar paper and chicken wire

create a container mold into which the wax is put & invested with the plaster mixture.

Step 5

The investment molds ready to be opened after cooling to 250-400 degrees.
